About Me
For my entire life, I have always hated lotion. My knuckles would chap and bleed every winter because I couldn’t stand how slimey and slippery lotion felt on my hands.
The first time I used tallow, it was different. It rubbed in smoothly and despite it being animal fat, it didn’t feel greasy. It also just worked. It kept my hands more moisturized than lotion ever did, lasted longer, and made my skin feel great.
It also fit perfectly into my lifestyle, as I had already been eating an animal-based diet and had a great relationship with my local grass-fed ranch due to my frequent trips to the farmer’s market to buy meat.
I started this business for a couple of reasons. First, I could not find any brands that sold one ingredient whipped tallow. I did not want my tallow to be mixed with other oils at undisclosed proportions. Second, I couldn’t be sure of the ways in which the product was produced unless I did it myself. Did they render the tallow in a non-stick pot that leached PFAS into the tallow? Was the tallow sourced from regenerative 100% grass-fed farms? I couldn’t be sure.
My health is a top priority and I am very conscious of what goes into my body, whether through my mouth or my skin. This thoughtfulness is the pinnacle of Head to Tail Tallow and extends throughout all of our operations. Beginning with where our tallow is sourced, and extending to the material it is rendered in, the way we strain it, the way we package it, and the way that it is shipped. Every detail has been considered to ensure that our products our safe, free of forever chemicals and endocrine disruptors, and packged in eco-friendly, biodegradable packaging.
When I first started using whipped tallow, I was primarily just using it on my face and hands. It was not until a little later when I read about the potential healing effects for skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris, etc. While research for this was limited, I had already begun to experience the benefits of tallow and figured that it would likely help with the keratosis pilaris on my arms. For context, I have had little red bumps on the backs of my arms for my whole life. I tried dermatologist prescribed soaps as a kid, but nothing helped and I learned to just live with it. It didn’t really effect me and since it was on the back of my arms, I barely saw it. I began using tallow on my arms most days and quickly noticed my skin felt softer. The red bumps were still present, but the color was softened and the skin was much smoother. The pictures on the right are of my arms, see the difference yourself. While research on the benefits of tallow are limited, I have read countless experiences of other individuals sharing a similar result when using tallow to treat skin conditions and from my personal experience, it works.
